Organic turmeric powder has been around for over 2,000 years. It comes from a herbaceous plant that can grow to over a metre in height and produce beautiful, colourful flowers that are little known to us. The root of this plant is used to extract the spice or superfood that is so sought after at the moment: turmeric.
Organic turmeric is a great addition to many foods: rice, meat and even smoothies. Its colour is as powerful as its aroma. Did you know that before it became a superfood, it was used in the textile industry? It is fantastic for dyeing, just ask your plates and cutlery. Of course, its flavour is not its strong point, so you can add it to most of your dishes without noticing it in the taste, although it will have a unique colour. You can use it to replace saffron and also include it in stews and stir-fries, which will add a touch of colour to your dishes.
Have you heard of golden milk? Its main ingredient is turmeric, which gives it that special colour, worthy of a high-class smoothie. It's as simple as adding a tablespoon to the mixture along with your favourite plant-based drink. It's very important to heat the milk without boiling it before adding the rest of the ingredients: ginger, cinnamon and black pepper.
